Antacids, acid blockers (proton pump inhibitors), calcium oxide (lime), calcium carbonate (oyster shell, dolomite, coral), magnesium oxide and alkaline waters can also lead to lowered stomach acid and acid production thus a decline in the absorption of these vitamins. Age decreases stomach acidity interfering with the absorption of these vitamins. But the B 6, B 12 and folate are all acid dependent for absorption. Methionine is used in conjunction with B 6, B 12 and folate to form SAMe. As I understand it - methionine ultilately becomes SAM-e after much conversion, but some folk can have problems with the conversion, hence may need SAM-e instead. SAM-e has always been notoriously expensive.
